More on Slumdog Millionaire's Success

Tools and creative minds took "Slumdog" to box office millionaire.
As the buzz surrounding Slumdog Millionaire continues after its big Oscar night (the film still placed in the Box Office top five the weekend of March 8, and has now grossed more than $125 million), as participants in the film community we continue to seek more on how exactly the “little film that could” was made.
As you may or may not know, a lot of the movie was captured using the Silicon Imaging SI-2K tapeless camera system, which may mark the largest film to utilize the camera since its product development began. Since the camera is back in the news, I felt it was appropriate to direct readers to articles we have done on the camera including a 2007 Vanguard Award and an article highlighting the field testing of the SI-2K on the film Spoon.
The film was shot with the Silicon Imaging unit by D.P. Anthony Dod Mantle, who ended up winning both the Oscar and the ASC Award for his cinematography work on Slumdog (see the list of ASC nominees). The Editing was done on an Avid Media Composer and Unity-based system by Oscar and ACE winner Chris Dickens and the color grading was done at Technicolor’s Moving Picture Company division.
And if you haven’t already, you really must see the Slumdog Millionaire remix created and produced by U.K.-based video jockeys Addictive TV.
If you’re a Digital Cinema Society Member in Los Angeles, you can visit Band Pro on March 21st for a more in-depth look at the SI-2K camera. The seminar runs from 10:00a.m. until noon at Band Pro, Burbank. Those interested in attending the Saturday seminar should RSVP via email with SI-2K in the subject line to: Mathers@DigitalCinemaSociety.org.
