HVR-V1U

ClearVid CMOS is the new chip that Sony developed for its latest 1080i HDV camcorder, the HVR-V1U, available in December. The three 1/4in. CMOS chips deliver 1080p imaging to allow the handheld camcorder to record true 24p to tape with 3:2 pulldown. The form factor is similar to that of Sony's DSR-PD170: smaller than the HVR-Z1U but somewhat comparable. The camera features a fixed 20X Zeiss lens and a battery that runs for up to eight hours. Sony's also introducing a mountable 60GB hard drive recorder, the HVR-DR60, which records 4.5 hours and communicates its capacity with the new-generation viewfinder of the V1. For D.W. Leitner's take on the new camera, see digitalcontentproducer.com/
