Better images for smaller camcorders

As a new generation of 1/3in.- and 1/2in.-CCD HDV camcorders come to market, manufacturers are fitting them with removable lenses to allow more creative choices.

At IBC 2006, Canon addressed this market with the debut of its HDgc family, including the KT20x5B KRS zoom lens for 1/3in. camcorders. The new lens features a 20X zoom ratio and a wide angle of 5mm, yielding a focal range of 5mm to 100mm. Other features of note include switchable 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios, Shuttle Shot (helps automate zoom movements), and newly developed Hi-UD (high-index, ultra-low dispersion) glass.

The new KH16ex5.7 IRSE, designed for 1/2in.-CCD camcorders, features a 16X zoom ratio and a focal length of 5.7mm to 91.2mm (or 11.4mm to 184mm using the built-in 2X extender).
