Color grading at HD resolutions

This summer, Autodesk adds Lustre HD to its Lustre line of color grading systems. Lustre HD accepts inputs up to 2K resolution and outputs up to 1920×1080, so it's not exactly designed for high-end film work. Still, this could be a very attractive solution for television work and for long-form projects originating in HD. Color grading is still usually done during telecine — not inhouse — so this could be a new service offering for many post facilities.

The software-based Lustre HD system ships as a turnkey, with computer hardware and video I/O (it supports 4:4:4 10-bit RGB). Autodesk says that by relying on commodity Nvidia GPUs for graphics processing, the Windows-based Lustre HD system is able to come in at a lower price point ($120,000) than traditional proprietary hardware systems. www.autodesk.com
