Globalstor’s latest ExtremeStor-DI server is designed for storing up to 36TB within a 6RU chassis and capable of processing dual streams of 2K HD content, which is perfect for stereo 3D.
Globalstor Data and Assimilate showcased the latest solutions for content management at HD Expo 2007. The newest ExtremeStor-DI model developed by Globalstor, which integrates Assimilate’s Scratch Digital Intermediate Process Solution, was demonstrated during the show to illustrate Scratch’s efficiency in supporting stereo 3D and ExtremeStor-DI’s effectiveness in processing this data. This demonstration offered a first-hand perspective at both products and how they can work together to support stereo 3D in live applications.
Now designed for storing up to 36TB within a 6RU chassis, the ExtremeStor-DI model can process dual streams of 2K HD content, which is perfect for stereo 3D, allowing users the ability to manipulate and view content in realtime in an excess of 24 frames per second at the highest resolution possible. It also features a pair of dual-core or optional quad-core Xeon or Opteron CPU’s with 3GB of RAM, hot-swappable mirrored OS drives, redundant hot-swappable power supplies, and hot-swap fans. Additionally, it is equipped with 36 hot-swap SATA drives that deliver read performance in excess of 1200MBps and write performance in excess of 900MBps, maximizing customers’ ROI.
Complimentary with the ExtremeStor-DI model is Assimilate’s Scratch DI software. A realtime, resolution-independent workflow solution geared toward digital intermediate processing, Scratch delivers affordable, high-performance, cost-effective, powerhouse postproduction capabilities that include data management, review/playback, assemble/edit, primary and secondary color grading, finishing, and mastering to any format. Providing users with a workflow of their choice, Scratch can be applied for imaging projects of 2k/4k film, digital film, HD/SD, and stereoscopic 3D.

“Assimilate’s Scratch is highly efficient software that is able to support stereo 3D, a format that is rapidly growing within the postproduction industry” says Globalstor Data President Scott Leif. “Globalstor's ExtemeStor-DI workstation is the hardware platform that can immediately process this type of data, which is the reason it made perfect sense for our companies to demonstrate these products together at HD Expo.”
“Like Globalstor Data Corporation, Assimilate is committed to providing production professionals with dependable and durable products that are high in quality and performance,” Leif says. “With both of our companies presenting side by side, we are able to give our customers the opportunity to see our products working symbiotically in a live setting.”
Assimilate CEO Jeff Edson says that Globalstor Data is a preferred vendor for Assimilate because its ExtremeStor-DI workstation is fast, powerful, and can seamlessly integrate Assimilate's Scratch digital intermediate process software for large amounts of DI data, such as 2k and 4:4:4 data, making it highly versatile for feature films and video in any format.
“The ExtremeStor-DI is a highly functional workstation that quickly processes large amounts of data associated with film and video digital post production. By combining Globalstor’s ExtremeStor-DI with our Scratch software, DPs, directors, and filmmakers can see immediate results of their work in 2k dailies, edit and color correct in realtime, add visual effects, wrap up finishing, and output to any format,” Edson says. "The combined Scratch and Extremestor-DI solution enables these professionals to save time in the post processdays, weeks, and often times monthsand it's highly cost-effective for the broad spectrum of filmmakers and post production facilities."
