P2 aids low-cost camcorder
When Panasonic introduced the P2 in 2003, the company maintained that the price on the P2 media would drop quickly, and at NAB 2005 that happened. An 8GB P2 card now costs $1,700 — the same price as the initial 4GB card. Now, a lower-cost camcorder comes along to take advantage of those lower media costs. The shoulder-mount AJ-SPC700 DVCPRO 50/DVCPRO P2 camcorder combines a 2/3in., 520,000-pixel, IT 3-CCD camera head with 60 fields interlace recording in 25Mbps DVCPRO/DV and 50Mbps 4:2:2 DVCPRO 50 format. Switchable between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, the camcorder's CCDs offer low smear, 750-line resolution, an S/N ratio of 63dB, and a high sensitivity of F11 at 2000 lux, and they need a minimum illumination of 0.5 lux (at +36dB), according to the company.
