HDR-FX1000 and HVR-Z5U

Sony keeps the options, and models, proliferating with two new tape-based HDV camcorders: the prosumer-oriented HDR-FX1000 handycam and professionally targeted HVR-Z5U (pictured). Sharing the same basic design, the models differ in that the pro version offers more of a variety of frame rates, audio, color controls, and other useful features. Basic features include three 1/3in. CMOS sensors, higher-res LCD viewer, and a non-removable lens. The models are the first to use Sony's G Lens, a move to create a brand that will be used across the company's camcorder and DSLR lines. The more interesting HVR-Z5U records at 1080/60i, 30p, 24p, HDV, DV, and DVCAM, and it offers timecode support and simultaneous output to the optional HVR-MRC1K CompactFlash card recorder.
