Carrying weight has always been a concern for location production. Now, with the proliferation of solid-state recording, camera and audio gear has trimmed down. Take the new Zaxcom Fusion audio recorder/mixer, set to release at NAB 2008. Because the recorder/mixer can record to two CompactFlash cards simultaneously as the sound operator records and mixes on the fly, the company suggests the system's mobility makes it ideal for use in reality television, surround recording, and ENG work. Fusion's DSP-based audio toolset, meanwhile, allows users to adjust more than 300 mixer cross-points and 200 controllable parameters.
