Improving audio quality in the field can be expensive, but new solutions continue to pop up that take the budgeting sting out. Sony's WRT-8P plug-on microphone transmitter, for example, doesn't cost all that much, yet its high power (selectable from 50mW to 250mW RF) gives it a long-distance range for, say, large-scale sporting event coverage. Features include +48V external power capability; mic/line input selector; easy-to-read LCD display with amber backlighting; battery alarm function transmitted to tuner; and balanced audio input.
