RAM record your audio
As prices for Flash RAM continue to plummet, innovative uses for this nonvolatile storage are popping up. The Marantz PMD660 audio recorder is a good example. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, the 660 has many of the features of more expensive, full-sized field recorders. It runs for hours on four AA batteries, while its solid-state recording makes it less vulnerable to bumps and vibrations. For the best quality, record uncompressed 16-bit PCM audio at 44.1kHz or 48kHz, but if MP3 mono is all you need, a single 1GB Flash card can hold up to 36 hours. Features include USB port, dual balanced-XLR inputs, phantom power, and dual built-in condenser mics.
