While it requires considerable bandwidth, sending 1080p progressive HD video is the one standard that's currently touted as “future proof.” For anyone who needs to move that sort of signal around today or in the future, MultiDyne Video & Fiber-Optic Systems offers a solution. The Locust Valley, N.Y.-based company introduced its HD-3000, a 3Gbps fiber-optic transport product, at NAB 2008. Featuring a 3Gbps video optical module developed by Gennum, the transmitter/receiver combo is said to be the only solution available that does not require any external audio or video processing. Because the units use Gennum's single-chip design, prices are kept down.
