Faster storage
Networked storage solves the problem of managing lots of disparate workstation DAS (direct attached storage) arrays, but fast storage systems are expensive. Huge Systems now offers some of the first 4Gb Fibre Channel RAID arrays at prices the company describes as entry-level. At up to 240MBps throughput in RAID-3 mode, the MediaVault 4105 storage array is fast, with enough speed for playback of almost six uncompressed SD streams, or a full uncompressed 10-bit 1080i HD stream, according to the company. The MediaVault 4105 is compatible with the Kona 2 dual-rate HD/SD capture card from AJA Video Systems.
