Ever since its first software product in 2003 supporting HDV editing, CineForm has enjoyed portraying itself as a small company that can deliver specialized compression code for production and post well before the competition.
At NAB Show 2009, the Solana Beach, Calif.-based company made another move to solidify that reputation with the introduction of Neo3D, the 3D version of its cross-platform raw codec used by Silicon Imaging (SI-2K camera) and Wafian (HR series disk recorders including the new HR-2-DS stereo). One of the stereo streams carries video data; the other stream carries metadata. Because the views are encoded separately—only mixing together during playback in postproduction—users have more flexibility in changing exposure, alignment, and convergence.
