Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended Review

Killer new features include 3D capabilities.
Adobe Repoussé is a brand-new feature in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended that lets you quickly extrude, shape, and render text objects.
I could never cover all the new features in this space, but several are standouts. The new Mixer Brush allows you to create dazzling natural media hues with color-blending and textured brush options. Selection tools have been improved so the program accurately can guess what you are trying to selectmaking detail work, especially moving frame to frame, a lot less taxing.
Adobe CS Live is a new Internet-enabled element to the program which features the new Adobe CS Review. With this new tool, it is now very easy to securely share your work updates with others. Clients can look at your work from their web browser and add as many comments as they want (wait, that may be trouble) and you can see the comments instantly. The way it is integrated into Photoshop makes it much easier to use. The fact that CS Live is “complimentary for a limited time,” according to the company, is a little disconcerting. However, this may be a killer feature and completely worth it, for global collaboration projects.

As usual, it’s hard to pinpoint problems when so much good stuff has been added, but I’ll try. I had always wanted Photoshop to run inside an expandable frame like other programs. When I saw the new “Application Frame” option, I have to admit I got a little tingly. It does now run in a frame, but your images and some of the tools still float above the program. So we’re halfway there, I guess. I do like the new Adobe Updater; it’s slick and works automatically.
Photoshop is such a standard to any content producer, it makes sense to upgrade. If you haven't already, do give the Extended version a try (you can download a free demo) because the 3D tools and animation capabilities are very powerful. With a bit of a learning curve, you can produce stunning 3D images and animation completely within Photoshop, without needing an external program.
