Vizrt has introduced the latest version of its Viz|World mapping software—Viz|World Version 1.2. Viz|World is a template-based solution that enables users to create branded maps and geographical animations in realtime from within most of Vizrt's control applications. Viz|World's embedded interface within other Vizrt software applications allows users to quickly generate branded, animated maps and add them to graphic templates or directly to a 3D scene.

The new version of Viz|World is now fully integrated with Microsoft's Virtual Earth platform for on-demand delivery of high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery. Through this product integration, broadcasters can now use imagery products stored on Microsoft's Internet-based Virtual Earth platform with the control they are accustomed to with Viz|World. 3D graphical elements can be added to the satellite imagery in realtime using a template-based system.

Viz|World is also now fully integrated with the newest version of Viz|Artist, Version 3.0. Among the many advances inherent in Version 3.0 are RTT Advanced Materials plug-ins for photo-realistic rendering of 3D objects and materials, new Visual Data Tools (VDT) plug-ins for increased financial and statistic database functionality, and enhanced interactivity with touchscreen devices.

Viz|World is powered by Viz|Curious World Map technology. Maps or templates are first prepared using Viz|Curious World Maps and Viz|Artist design software. Those templates and maps are stored within a Viz|World server that can be accessed by any number of users throughout an organization. Maps are available to clients such as Viz|Content Pilot control and management, Viz|Artist, Viz|Trio CG, and Viz|Weather software. The Viz|Engine renderer accesses the Viz|World server to play out the maps.

"Thanks to the power of our template-based system, users can define the look and feel of maps with consistent branding in realtime," says Halid Hatic, VP of business development, mapping technologies, for Vizrt. "From within the familiar Vizrt software, users can easily define how the map operates, whether it's the inclusion of 3D objects or animation, and the operator can play out the content of the map. Previously, maps created within a 2D template could not be changed once rendered. With this latest version of Viz|World, maps can be changed at the last minute—at any stage of the process."
