Poser goes pro
While it never had the extensive capabilities of professional animation packages, Poser has been a longtime favorite for anyone desiring a quick, intuitive interface for character design.
At Siggraph, though, the pro market was finally addressed with the announced release of Poser Pro, which adds improved integration with pro apps, a 64-bit render engine, multithreading support, HDR imagery export, and network rendering support.
Support for the increasingly popular COLLADA exchange format means that Poser scenes can be hosted within apps, including Maxon Cinema 4D, Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya, Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, and NewTek LightWave. Partner N-Sided will make Quidam for Poser available, which is said to offer easy content modification via subsurface modeling. www.e-frontier.com
