It caused a stir when it was shown at NAB 2008, and now Panasonic's P2-based AG-HPX170 handheld camcorder has a ship date (late September) and a final list price. The new camcorder has a reputation to uphold; its long-lived predecessor, the AG-HVX200, became an indie feature-film and documentary mainstay. The improvements are practical: the widest zoom lens in its class, an HD-SDI interface, 20 HD/SD recording formats, and a 13X Leica Dicomar zoom lens — all within a lightweight (4.2lbs.) body.
