Encoding HD for discs
The majority of hardware and software encoding products do a pretty good job of creating DVDs from today's standard video formats. But what about the high data rates needed for handling HD in formats such as Blu-ray and HD DVD, or encoding for uses such as video on demand?
Inlet Technologies addresses that with release 2.1 of Fathom, its realtime hardware encoding solution for Windows Media Video HD content. Fathom combines an optimized ASIC encoding engine matched to analysis and compression software said to deliver smaller file sizes, better-quality output, and greatly reduced processing time compared to other approaches that work with the SMPTE VC-1 format.
New features include MediaCat (which makes it easier to work with a mix of content that has multiple timecodes), direct encoding from HD SDI, and file import support of advanced EDLs such as ALE/FLEX. www.inlethd.com
