Splice time

Introduced at last year's NAB, Splice addressed the lack of realtime interactivity for the Da Vinci Systems 2K/2K Plus color correction systems. Using the company's Transformer hardware, Splice works as a virtual telecine at the front end of a 2K or 2K Plus; colorists can now browse, select, and play images in realtime directly from local storage or a SAN/LAN configuration for non-linear, in-context grading.

At NAB 2007, version 2.0 enhancements included a Program Record function that allows users to control Splice as a recorder, while also controlling a telecine from the Da Vinci 2K; additional drag-and-drop editing functions that enable users to build timelines in any order as well as conform standard EDLs; and a new Ingest feature for capturing material directly from a telecine without an external controller. www.davsys.com
