Serial-attached SCSI storage is a new option. Price: Starts at less than $1,000
xw4400 workstation
PC heavyweight HP unveiled its new entry-level workstation at Siggraph. The xw4400 is based on Intel's new Core 2 Duo processors. It's single socket (no dual processors) but supports dual cores. HP explains the Core 2 Duo's unique engine does significantly more work per cycle than the previous Pentium D, explaining the new processor's performance gains at lower clock speeds. The xw4400 also supports all the latest Nvidia Quadro and ATI FireGL graphics boards. Using two external 5.25in. drive bays, users can install four SATA drives for up to 2TB of internal storage, which they can then configure as RAID internally.
