The new generation of 45nm-chip technology used in Intel's Xeon 5400 series processors just about doubles the transistor density of the previous-generation processors — leading to improvements in speed and energy efficiency. That's put to good use in Boxx Technologies' latest high-end workstation, the RTX 8400 — which employs two of these quad-core CPUs. Designed with an eye for supplying realtime playback of everything from HDV and HD through to 4K files, the workstation chassis can house up to 24 hot-swappable data drives in addition to two system drives.
