Working with more than a single CD player or mini-disc system for sound playback gets complicated, with lots of potential gotchas with all those cables snaking around. Stage Research recently introduced an upgrade to its SFX 6 to address those concerns. The software has been completely rewritten for speed and stability, while new embedded technologies such as the ASIO sound-playback engine offers improved support for 16-bit and higher WAV, MP3, and WMA audio files. Ease of use is still key: Users place sound files on a computer, and then drag and drop them into a SFX cue list along with other special cues, such as waits and volume changes, created in SFX.
