More smoke and fire
Discreet has been working overtime. At IBC 2004, the Montreal-based company launched Fire 6.5 and Smoke 6.5, the latest versions of its powerhouse duo editing and finishing systems. This follows the Siggraph debut of Inferno 6, Flame 9, Flint 9, and Lustre 2.5.
It was in version 6 that both Fire and Smoke gained a new architecture delivering “Total Resolution Freedom” — the ability to work with clips at any resolution, aspect ratio, and frame rate in a single timeline, and then to master to any output format, from SD through to uncompressed DI. For the 6.5 releases, both apps gain more capabilities to handle data-centric workflows involving ever-growing data sets, multiple data types, more complex task handling, improved throughput, and better system inter-connectivity.
Meanwhile, Inferno 6, Flame 9, and Flint 9 gained a wide range of new tools and feature enhancements, including Distort (a spline-based warper) and an improved layer-based Paint module. Lustre 2.5 features a new 32-bit per component processing engine with realtime 2K primary correction chops. www.discreet.com
