Using Avid Media Composer 5 and RED MX Mysterium on For Robbing the Dead.

Using AMA, I simply point my bin to the storage device holding the media, and in a flash I'm editing. To have the RED media immediately available right there in my Avid timeline for continuity and edit decisions is invaluable. Further down the post pipeline, Avid's ability to import and export FCP-flavored ProRes files (in fact, anything that QuickTime can read) will make collaboration a seamless effort. Our DIT wrote the footage to a CalDigit VR mini, where the bus-powered tiny powerhouse furnished a convenient, dependable media stream to the i7 MacBook Pro running the beta version of Media Composer 5. (This new laptop offers impressive battery life, by the way.)

While Avid's AMA implementation in Media Composer 5 can't see the .WAV files our audio department was generating as of yet, audio import is very quick if necessary, and syncs effortlessly with the RED media in the bin. Once synced, import the script and Avid's Scriptsync feature analyzes the audio in each take and presents a lined script for the edit that's very close to being ready for post. It's really the 21st century!
With the RED MX grabbing beautiful images, and a completely portable edit suite in my lap, I was in moviemaking nirvana.
