More bits for better images
Computers are bit pushers. More “1” and “0” bits are better, leading to increased processing power, whether for computers or camcorders. JVC's GY-DV5100 ADC Pro-DV camcorder, for example, employs a 24-bit DSP, a big jump in bit handling compared to the prior generation. According to the company, the chip yields higher-resolution images with less visible noise than previous models. The DR-DV5000U is a useful option; the Direct-to-Edit hard disk recording module attaches to the rear of the camera. Other features include a 16:9 mode and three built-in XLR connectors.
