Put it away in 4K
With more interest in 4K production and post, making sure that high-res work is safe is a new problem to consider. Creating multiple black-and-white reels to backup a color film is one solution, because black-and-white film stock is estimated to last 500 years in archival storage.
Celco offers one solution with its CineSafe 4K Digital Archive Recorder. It was announced at IBC 2007, and it's now shipping. CineSafe outputs color separations onto fine-grain black-and-white film stocks. The device images a high-resolution 4K frame in 2 seconds — claimed to be twice as fast as a laser recorder. CineSafe employs Celco's latest Linux host-computer and film-recorder driver software as well as FilmOut Pro Advanced Film Recording Software, which offers a GUI to control the film recorder. www.celco.com
