ZFR100 recorder
As Flash RAM recording technology permeates, audio decks can be had more cheaply. How's that? Complex tape transports or even hard-drive mechanisms add costs compared to a simple RAM interface. Zaxcom's new ZFR100 recorder is a good example: It can record up to 12 track hours of audio directly to a 2GB flash memory card, yet prices less than four figures and weighs only 4oz. One of the ZFR100's unique abilities is that it can receive timecode through an RF link directly from a video camera, allowing it to record only when the camera is rolling, thus maintaining perfect timecode synchronization with the recorded video.
