Elastic bands — sometimes just plain rubber bands — have been used for years to isolate microphones within their holders. While they're pretty good at holding vibration down, they can cause other problems since the elastic material still allows microphones to move around, which can generate other types of noise. Now Rycote says its more rigid lyre suspensions improve upon the old standard by further reducing microphone movement noise. Made of Hytrel plastic, lyres offer nearly unbreakable support, while coming in varying diameters. The eight different models in the InVision line can be used with a wide range of microphones of different diameters and from different manufacturers.
