It might not be the first thing you consider when you spec out a camera, but like most modern electronics, there's plenty in the hardware that can pollute. Panasonic adds a number of nice touches as it updates its highly popular AG-DVX100A and AG-DVX100 models with the AG-DVX100B, a 24p/30p/60i MiniDV camcorder, claimed to be among the first to be RoHS-compliant — basically, a product that is virtually free of lead, arsenic, and other nasty substances. Among its more than two-dozen enhancements are: camera-to-camera time-code synch (uses FireWire to synch multiple camcorders for multi-cam shoots); 16:9 letterbox display mode on the electronic viewfinder; wired remote control of focus and iris; and higher-res in-camera EVF and LCD monitors. (For an in-depth look at this camcorder, see “A Legend Refined” on www.videosystems.com)
