We knew LED lighting was more efficient, but who realized you could run pro-camera lights off of standard AA batteries? That's what Litepanels has done with its new Micro LED lighting system, designed for use with the smallest of DV camcorders. Of course with its diminutive size, it really functions solely as an eyelight — don't think you'll be going spelunking with it — but that's all that's usually necessary when shooting close-ups. The company claims the daylight spot will deliver 1.5 hours of continuous output from four AA batteries.
