HD Wireless Camera System
Live productions such as sports or concerts require field-ready camera systems. But the constraints of cabling can limit camera placement. One solution - wireless transmission - is starting to catch on, although HD's throughput requirements are high. According to Grass Valley, however, its HD Wireless Camera System (for its LDK 6000 series cameras) decreases bandwidth needs by using wavelet-based JPEG 2000 compression. While this breakthrough system is expensive, expect hardware makers - including GV's parent Thomson - to pare down prices quickly.
