While there are not yet many productions employing the JPEG 2000 spec, the advanced codec already has the Hollywood community behind it — it's the standard for digital cinema theatrical playback. Thomson uses the wavelet-based codec in the Thomson Grass Valley Infinity DMC 1000/20 camcorder (pictured), which recently started shipping. Now, the company is working with Cineform, the small, savvy developer of advanced software-based codecs. The new I-J2K Suite from Cineform enables Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro users to work in realtime with 10-bit, 4:2:2 files captured with the Infinity DMC.
