Vixia HV30

Canon's introduction of its HV20 camcorder at the beginning of 2007 raised the ante for small, entry-level camcorders with its 1920×1080 imager and 24p Cinema Mode. The camcorder was a hit, with a number of awards noting its color rendition and capability of direct HDMI output from the camera head. At CES 2008, Canon followed that up with the debut of the Vixia HV30, with a sleek, all-black design. The numbering scheme tips us off that it is an upgrade product — although it also sports the new name of the company's consumer HD line: Vixia. The most notable change is the addition of a 30p capture mode to the standard 60i and 24p. Canon's rationale? Video-sharing sites often downconvert to 15fps; shooting at 30p makes for a cleaner downconversion, compared to the other rates.
