New crossconverter outputs 1080i from live or recorded HDV. Price: $5,995
GY-HD200UB
You've got to hand it to JVC. While the company has been going through ownership changes and having money problems over the past couple of years, it keeps on working up innovative technology while lowering prices. The new GY-HD200UB ProHD camcorder, for example, offers an improved workflow via selectable live transport stream output capability (either 1080 60i and 50i signals or 720 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, and 60p through the 1394 connection). Because it can output a signal via FireWire, you can record onto the company's ProHD DR-HD100 HDD, enabling Apple Final Cut Pro users to work quickly with either .m2t or .mov QuickTime files. There's full-frame 1280×720 imaging, 720p recording, an improved 14-bit A/D converter, 16:1 Fujinon zoom, and an Anton Bauer battery system.
