GV Goes IT
At IBC 2005, GV made a bold move with the announcement of its Infinity series, a capture and recording system that uses open IT-based standards for media, recording, and I/O.
The announced products — which include a digital media camcorder, a digital media recorder, and a new line of media and peripheral devices — offer users control over recording media, formats, compression codecs, and connectivity.
Just like a computer, you can connect the Infinity digital media camcorder and the Infinity digital media recorder to external storage devices or PCs via USB or FireWire, or to networks via Gigabit Ethernet. The Infinity series also sidesteps the proprietary media required by other companies' next-generation products. The camcorder uses off-the-shelf Iomega REV or REV PRO removable disks and professional-grade CompactFlash solid-state memory as recording and playback media. “Before now, buying a specific tape format determined whose gear you could buy, locking you in,” says Scott Murray, director of market development at Grass Valley. “With an open digital format, that's going to change.” www.grassvalley.com
