Free iPhone app to calculate storage requirements.
If you're busy on a production or in the edit suite, any tools that help you work faster and smarter are welcome. It's even better when they are free.
That's why you might want to check out AJA DataCalc from AJA Video Systems. It couldn't get much simpler: This free iPhone app can be called up in seconds and allows you to calculate storage consumption and data-capturing requirements.
There is support for numerous video compression formats including Apple ProRes, DVCPRO HD, HDV, XDCAM, DV, and RGB/YUV Uncompressed. Video standards supported include NTSC, PAL, 1080i, 1080p, 720p, 2K, and 4K.
You can enter most settings by simply scrolling through lists of common file format configurations. Durations can be entered in terms of days, hours, seconds, or timecode frame count. Hit the More button to go deeper into the set up to select and specify frame rates, frame sizes, and compression type. If you're dealing with audio, you can select sample rates and bits per sample. Finally, pressing the Information icon leads you to a summary page so that you can review the results.
