Vista Systems
Montage II

Vista Systems Corp. will unveil Montage II at InfoComm 2005. The Montage II control platform, which supports Vista’s Spyder family of processors, consists of a brand new control panel and v.2 Vista Advanced Windowing Control software. Montage II, which will be shipping by show time, is an entirely new platform and is much more powerful than Montage and is easier to use. With analog and digital I/Os and a more modular design, Montage II can handle a wider variety of shows from single-screen applications to the most complex events. The increased power, innovative features, and attractive price tag of Montage II make it accessible to many new markets. Among Montage II’s many offerings are: digital I/O (DVI, SDI, HD-SDI); composite S-Video I/O; more powerful outputs which can be native or scaled TwinDVI (10-bit) hardware; I/O expansion (32x32 max per pixelspace); mixing of background stills at full display resolution; image capture from incoming video channel; better, more natural-looking shadows and borders; much smaller footprint than Montage--every 8 channels fits in 3 rack units; and color keying in addition to standard luminance keying. The Montage II console and v.2 Advanced Windowing Control software are totally integrated so anything done in the software is immediately available in the console and vice versa. Vista Systems will also be showcasing the diversity of Spyder and its widespread adoption across a variety of applications and industries including sanctuary, laboratory, shopping mall, corporate lobby, ballroom, war room, boardroom, operating room, classroom, and living room.

Barco
MiSphere

First unveiled on the current U2 Vertigo tour, designed by Willie Williams, Barco’s MiSphere is a tiny, plastic-encased LED spherical module designed and developed by Barco at its R&D headquarters in Belgium especially for the current tour. With 360° viewing angles, opaque, light-diffusing casing and ability to play both full video and data, the MiSphere bridges the gap between existing video and lighting products, enabling it to be used for both application purposes. Individual MiSpheres are daisy-chained into a string, with several strings in turn forming a 3D visualization curtain. Each MiSphere acts as a pixel within the curtain, making it possible to display images and simulate lighting effects across the entire curtain, while also achieving a “Look-Trough” effect and “Multiple Angle” viewing effect for the audience all around the scene. For the U2 tour, the MiSphere strings hang high above centerstage, each containing 64 spheres and totalling approximately 30’ long.

Kramer Electronics, Ltd.
FireWire Products

Kramer Electronics, Ltd. has introduced of a family of FireWire products at InfoComm that includes the TP-400FW FireWire range extender (pictured), VS-30FW high-speed hub, FC-20 bi-directional SDI/FireWire converter, and VS-66FW switcher/matrix. FireWire signals have a 14.75’ (4.5m) distance limitation. Kramer’s new TP-400FW solves this distance limitation for 100Mbps Video (DV) FireWire signals by converting a FireWire signal to be sent over inexpensive and unshielded CAT 5 cable up to 300’ (100m) to a second TP-400FW that will convert the signal back. The Kramer VS-30 FW is a three port DV/FireWire repeater/hub that supports the latest 800Mbps FireWire (IEEE 1394) signal standard. Kramer’s new FC-20 is a broadcast quality bi-directional SDI/FireWire converter with embedded AES/EBU audio conforming to SMPTE-272M-A. The Kramer VS-66FW is a 6 port FireWire Switcher/Matrix.
